Markets closed out the week with a slight loss but I did notice a lot of buying activity for dividend paying stocks this week as I watched my portfolio value continue to rise. I am not sure if this was due to people reacting to lower interest rates or if it is a defensive move for a possible pullback. Either way it does not impact my income as the divvy's keep rolling in.

We did get our first frost of the season which is my signal to grab a fishing pole and enjoy the weekend lake fishing and check out for a couple days. For those not aware, first frost is a good indicator that bass will be in a feeding frenzy to get ready for the long winter. That's it for now so onto the transaction & news of my portfolio.

New Buy GT - 18 Oct 2019 20:38

Brokerage Buy: Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT)

gt.png

Purchase Price: $15.14/share
Increase in Forward Annual Div: $18
Inflation Beating Streak: 5 Years
Div Growth Streak: 6 Years
Yield: 4.22%
Payout Ratio: 34%
Most Recent Dividend Increase: 14.29% / Oct 2018

GT is a new position for me and the smallest individual buy I have ever made. Fidelity removing trading fees is making this very interesting.

Speaking of interesting, this stock is listed as part of the Consumer Discretionary sector which I find odd as it is not tied to automobile sales and since cars always need tires I see this more as a Consumer Staple. - Comments: 4

New Buy IBM - 17 Oct 2019 20:31

IRA Buy: International Business Machines (IBM)

Purchase Price: $133.15/share
Increase in Forward Annual Div: $45
Inflation Beating Streak: 22 Years
Div Growth Streak: 24 Years
Yield: 4.87%
Payout Ratio: 55%
Most Recent Dividend Increase: 3.18% / Apr 2019

IBM reported a weaker than expected quarter and quickly sold off today. Hoped to get a better price but $133 seemed to be the bottom support so I grabbed a few shares. - Comments: 0

The week started off down but rallied on Thursday & Friday to a small gain for the week.

There was good news from Fidelity who announced they are jumping on the no fees stock transaction band wagon. Cannot say I am shocked as companies like Robinhood & M1 Finance have made such an impact on not just new but legacy investors too. For me personally this opens up more frequent buying as I know longer wait to buy in $1000 minimums.

While I have M1 Finance & Fidelity accounts I plan to continue to keep both as each offers unique benefits. M1's business model with Pies & fractional shares is unique enough to allow it to survive but growth may slow down. Whereas I am unsure about Robinhood now that the big brokerage houses offer the same benefits. We will have to wait and see if Robinhood & M1 can innovate further.

New Buy APLE - 08 Oct 2019 21:01

Roth IRA Buy: Apple Hospitality REIT (APLE)

APLE.png

Purchase Price: $16.09/share
Increase in Forward Annual Div: $80
Inflation Beating Streak: 0 Years
Div Growth Streak: 0 Years
Yield: 7.46%

I realize Apple Hospitality (APLE) is not a dividend growth stock but my REIT diversification is light on Hotel REITs so I took advantage of a price drop and increased my position in APLE.

Overall I am still $1000 away from balancing out the hotel sector of my REIT portfolio and plan to close on that before the end of the year.

For those curious about my REIT diversification here are the different REIT sectors I try to maintain an even spread with:

  • Data Storage
  • Entertainment Facilities
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Industrial Facilities
  • Residential Apartments
  • Retail Stores
  • Senior Housing
  • Timber
  • Warehouses - Comments: 0

First week of October is already on the books and while some mourn the passing of summer others are welcoming Fall and all its brilliant colors from leaves changing and everything pumpkin flavored.

Regardless of how mother nature is changing, events around the market remain the same; Trump continues to be himself, no China trade deal, Democratic presidential hopefuls rallying against the wealthy, and on and on. Through it all we just continue to collect our dividends as the drama plays out.
